The RN’s conduct resulted in an inaccurate medical record and could possibly mislead the facility. In addition, the RN’s conduct could possibly injure the patient in that subsequent caregivers would rely on her documentation for further care, the patient was not harmed in this case.
In response, the RN admits that on August 9, 2018, she received a call at about 6:00 am from her sitter stating her son was very ill. She admits that she notified the patient’s parents that she needed to leave but failed to notify her supervisor until later in the day. The RN states she finished her care, gave her medications, and documented them before leaving around 6:30 am. The RN states she had documented her shift care by 6 am with the hope that she would stay until 7 am but she received the emergency call She stated in the rush to get home to her son, she forgot to change the 7:00 am to 6:30 am on the vital signs and shift notes. The patient’s lither signed her notes before she left.
The Texas BON found the RN’s conduct violates a section of the Texas Occupations Code. Thus, her RN license was suspended, and placed on probation.
The Texas Board of Nursing gave the RN sufficient time to defend the complaints filed against her. However, there was a failure on the RN’s part to find the right nurse attorney to handle her case. The negligence of the nurse’s attorney led to the suspension of the defendant’s RN license.
